Colima Volcanoes
From Colima city you can see two vocanoes in the North, these are the “Volcan de Fuego” and the “Nevado de Colima”.
The “Nevado de Colima” volcano is an extinct volcano which no lnger erupts and is a majestic mountain of 4240 meters high.
But the fire volcano of Colima is an intensely active volcano which is constantly observed and monitored, in charge of a University of Colima scientific committee.
The fire volcano of Colima has a height of 3.860 meters. This volcano is located in threes states, Colima, Jalisco and Michoacan.
The type of volcano is stratovolcano; its eruptions have been considered explosive. Along 500 years theactivity has increased, so the governents of the states have been on extreme vigilance of the volcanic activity.
The maximum permitted approach to the volcano is 5 km away from the crater and only scientists can get closer to the crater, there are also areas protected by the Mexican army safekeeping the limits of the vocano.
The Nevado de Colima is an antique vocanic massif located in the state f Jalisco, in the occident of the Mexican Rpublic, its height is 4240 meters, and no lner presents volcanic activity.
The Nevado vegetation is composed of warm cold forests, and starting from 4000 meters there’s the ecosystem known as the alpine thundra, where grass and moss compose most of the vegetation, since trees stop growing at that height.
The area where this volcano is located is protected by the Mexican Government with the Nevado de Colima National Park decree granted by president Lázaro Cárdenas on 1936, the natural area also protects the neighbouring fire volcano, which is considered the most active Mexican volcano.
Snowings in this mountain often occur during the most cold and humid winters, mainly between January and February, but it doesn’t happen every year.
